"Project Runway" Designer Chris March's Butt-Cracker Suite Begins Off-Broadway Holiday Run Nov. 24
By Adam Hetrick
Drama Desk Award-nominated designer Chris March, known for his appearance on "Project Runway," debuts his trailer park-set take on the beloved Christmas tale "The Nutcracker" – Chris March's Butt-Cracker Suite – beginning Nov. 24 at HERE Arts Center.
Written, directed and designed by March, the production makes use of the designer's flair for the outrageous. It officially opens Nov. 30 for a run through Dec. 29.
March plays Clara in a cast that also features Sara Brophy, Michael Dauer, Joshua Dean, Vassiliki Ellwood, Ashley Munzek, Andrea Palesh, Kristen Schoen-Rene and Dana Winkle.
The comedy is billed as "an outrageous re-creation of 'The Nutcracker' set, of course, in a trailer park. Dancing pink flamingos, cans of Spam, and ugly Christmas sweaters come to life on Christmas Eve… but no Sugar Plum Fairies or Snowflakes in this version! March promises to brighten your holiday season by turning 'trash' into this season's most unique and outrageous show. With a lot of fun music, over-the-top costumes, fabulous dancers, and just a hint of blasphemy, this show is the tacky gift that keeps on giving!"
The creative team includes Benjamin Franklin (choreographer), Andrea Purcigliotti (scenery), JennyB/ShadyLady (lighting) and Masako Kataoka (sound).
March's work has been seen in Arias With a Twist and Beach Blanket Babylon. He has also designed for Madonna, Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Chaka Khan, Chanel and Meryl Streep. He is also the subject of the new Bravo series "Mad Fashion," which debuted on Bravo Oct. 4.
