Following Closure at London's Shaftesbury, Rock of Ages to Relocate to New Home
By Mark Shenton
The West End production of Rock of Ages, which is to shutter as previously announced Jan. 6, 2013, at the Shaftesbury Theatre after a 16-month run, is to relocate to a new, smaller home, resuming performances at the Garrick Jan. 18.
It followed a similar route on Broadway, where it originally opened at the Brooks Atkinson before moving to its current home, the Helen Hayes.
In the show, Ross Hunter plays Drew, the city boy following his dreams of being a rock star with the help of hippie bar owner Dennis Dupree (played by Daniel Fletcher), with Tim Howar as maverick rock god Stacee Jaxx.
In a press statement, Simon Lipkin (who continues as the narrator Lonny) commented, "It's awesome we’re following Status Quo’s mantra of Rockin'All Over the World, we're Rockin’ All Over the West End!"
The current cast also includes Nathan Amzi, Natalie Andreou, Grant Anthony, Tim Driesen, Carly Mercedes Dyer, Cordelia Farnworth, Daniel Fletcher, Leanne Garretty, Selina Hamilton, Jodie Jacobs, Rachel McFarlane, Ian McIntosh, Sandy Moffat, Andrew Spillett and Rohan Tickell.
Rock of Ages is written by Chris D’Arienzo, directed by Tony-nominated Kristin Hanggi and choreographed by Kelly Devine. Scenic design is by Tony nominee Beowulf Boritt, costume design is by Tony Award nominee Gregory Gale, lighting design is by Jason Lyons, sound design is by Tony Award nominee Peter Hylenski, and projection design is by Zachary Borovay.
