The U.S. premiere of Nick Payne's humor-kissed dysfunctional-family drama If There Is I Haven't Found It Yet, at Roundabout Theatre Company's Off-Broadway home at the Laura Pels Theatre, starts up again on Dec. 8, following a break. Performances continue to Dec. 23.

The production has given film star Jake Gyllenhaal his (well-reviewed) American stage debut, playing an estranged, misfit uncle who bonds with his outsider niece while visiting his brother and sister-in-law. Tony Award nominee Enid Graham (Broadway's Honour, Fortune's Fool, Dinner at Eight, The Constant Wife, The Public Theater's recent King Lear) joined the cast in the role of busy mother Fiona (replacing Michelle Gomez) on Oct. 23.

The limited run, which was originally scheduled to run through Nov. 25 only, took a 13-day break before resuming performances.

On Dec. 9, a special talkback on the topic of climate change will follow the 2 PM performance. The talkback is complimentary for ticketholders to this performance, and a limited number of tickets are still available to purchase. Pia Catton of The Wall Street Journal will serve as moderator of the discussion, focused on the themes of climate change and global warming that resonate within Payne's play. Joining Catton will be cast members and Mary-Elena Carr and Bob Anderson of The Earth Institute at Columbia University.

Michael Longhurst directs a cast that includes Annie Funke as teen niece Anna, Gyllenhaal as Uncle Terry and Brían F. O'Byrne as academic father George.

The design team includes Beowulf Boritt (sets), Susan Hilferty (costumes), Natasha Katz (lights) and Obadiah Eaves (original music and sound). Read the Playbill.com feature about the production's unusual water-logged scenic design by Beowulf Boritt.

If There Is I Haven't Found It Yet plays at the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre/Laura Pels Theatre (111 W. 46th Street).

Here's how Roundabout bills the play: "If There Is I Haven't Found It Yet is an entertaining look at a regular family stuck somewhere between knowing what the problem is... and doing something about it. Fifteen-year-old Anna's weight makes her a natural target for bullies. When her mom transfers Anna to the school where she teaches in order to protect her daughter, it only makes things worse. Anna's environmentalist dad, determined to finish his new book and save the planet, is no help at all. Just as Anna gets suspended for retaliating with a head-butt, her estranged uncle Terry arrives unannounced. A heartbroken drifter with the mouth of a sailor, Terry reaches out to Anna in a way that no one ever has. Their unexpected friendship sends her parents' rocky marriage into a tailspin as the whole family wonders, what — or who — really needs saving?"
