Playbill Video EXCLUSIVE: "The Devil's Bitch" Film Musical, with Marla Mindelle and Matthew Risch, Part 1
By Adam Hetrick
"The Devil's Bitch," the new short film comedy by Marla Mindelle and Jonathan Parks-Ramage about an aspiring wheelchair-using musical theatre actress who sells her soul to a fabulous devil in the hopes of stardom and a bigger bust, premieres in a four-part series on Playbill.com beginning Jan. 7.
Mindelle, who belted out "The Life I Never Led" in the Broadway premiere of Sister Act and is set to appear in the Broadway premiere of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella, stars in the comedy that she co-wrote and executive-produced with Parks-Ramage.
Jake Honig directed "The Devil's Bitch," which features choreography by Connor Gallagher and is produced by Katherine Paige Picariello and Kim Lessing. New installments will debut daily on Playbill.com through Jan. 10.
The cast also features Matthew Risch (Other Desert Cities, Pal Joey) as the Devil, Josh Segarra (Lysistrata Jones), Jeanna De Waal (Carrie, American Idiot), Philip Drennen, Taurean Everett and Jonathan Beard.
It features music by up-and-coming composer Will Van Dyke, who was featured in the first installment of Playbill.com's "Contemporary Songwriters You Should Know."
Here's how it's described: "'The Devil's Bitch' is about a girl who sells her soul to the Devil for fame, fortune and bigger boobs. In return, she must commit Satanic deeds – musically. It's dark, it's campy, and it features some of your favorite Broadway stars singing about pot smoking and murder. Think of it as the 'anti-'Glee.'"
