American Idiot's Rebecca Naomi Jones to Perform at the Apollo Theater
By Adam Hetrick
Rebecca Naomi Jones, who appeared in the Broadway productions of Passing Strange and American Idiot, will perform a solo concert at Harlem's famed Apollo Theater in February.
The 10 PM concert on Feb. 1 promises a "magical journey weaved by story and song." The young actress, whose late father Eddie Jones was the musical director/vocal arranger of the doo-wop group The Cadillacs, will offer an exploration of her father's influence on her own musical tastes.
As previously reported, veteran dancer-choreographer Maurice Hines will bring back the heyday of Harlem nightlife at the Apollo Theater — which will be transformed into a nightclub venue as part of Apollo Club Harlem — in a new revue set to debut Feb. 18, 22 and 23.
Performers for the latter will include Grammy Award-winning jazz singer Dee Dee Bridgewater, jazz performer Cecile Salvant, street dancer Storyboard P and tap dancer Dormeshia, backed by a cast of dancers and musicians.
