By Adam Hetrick
The Amoralists' world-premiere of Lyle Kessler's college-set drama Collision begins performances Jan. 10 Off-Broadway at the Rattlestick Playwrights Theater.
Kessler is also the playwright of Orphans, which will premiere on Broadway this season with Alec Baldwin and Shia LaBeouf among the cast.
David Fofi directs the premiere of Collision that will run through Feb. 17. It officially opens Jan. 22.
The Amoralists have received praise for their unconventional, gritty works including Hotel/Motel, The Pied Pipers of the Lower East Side, Happy In The Poorhouse, Amerissiah, Ghosts in the Cottonwoods and Chasing the Fantastic in recent seasons.
The cast features Michael Cullen (Bus Stop, Bug), Craig 'muMs' Grant ("Oz"), James Kautz (The Pied Pipers of the Lower East Side, The Hallway Trilogy), Nick Lawson (The Pied Pipers of the Lower East Side, Happy in the Poorhouse) and Anna Stromberg (The Bad and the Better, HotelMotel).
Here's how the 90-minute work is billed: "In Collision, chance encounters prove calculated when three students, a professor, and a stranger come together in this incendiary drama. Set in a college dormitory somewhere in the heart of America, this band of incongruous intellectuals with hidden scars embarks on a dangerous course to create order out of chaos. Their united moral compass will guide them to the edge of the cliff…and beyond. What happens when all the wrong people meet at exactly the right time?"
The creative team includes Alfred Schatz (set design), Jaime Torres (costume design) and Phil Carluzzo (sound design).
The Amoralists is a theatre company that produces work of no moral judgment. Dedicated to an honest expression of the American condition, the actor-driven ensemble explores complex characters of moral ambiguity.
