Two-time Tony Award winner Chita Rivera, who currently stars in Roundabout Theatre Company's acclaimed revival of The Mystery of Edwin Drood, celebrates her birthday Jan. 23. In honor of the Broadway legend, Playbill.com looks back at her career with clips from her theatrical outings and more.



Rivera, a Gypsy Robe recipient who is best known as "Queen of the Gypsies," is a Tony Award winner for her performances in The Rink and Kiss of the Spider Woman. She has been nominated for her performances in Bye Bye Birdie, Chicago, Bring Back Birdie, Merlin, Jerry's Girls, Nine and Chita Rivera: The Dancer's Life. She has also been seen on Broadway in Can-Can, Seventh Heaven, Mr. Wonderful, Shinbone Alley and West Side Story, among others. Rivera is also a Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient and the first Hispanic woman to receive a Kennedy Center Honors Award.
