Kelechi Ezie Is Celie in White Plains Color Purple, Starting Feb. 8

Kelechi Ezie, whose New York theatrical credits include Restoration Comedy, Tearing Down The Walls and The Dome, plays Celie in the White Plains Performing Arts Center production of the award-winning musical The Color Purple, which begins performances Feb. 8.
Directed by Jeremy Quinn with musical direction by Stephen Ferri and choreography by Taavon Gamble, performances are scheduled for Feb. 8-10 and 22-24.
The cast also includes Keith Antone, Nick Butler, Jasmine Coles, Najee Gabay-Knight, Joseph Ghee, Terri-Ann Gordon, Deidre Grace, Jasmine Jenkins, Jeffrey Johnson, Kayla Mattocks, Jasmine Monet, Nattalyee Randall, Laurel Richardson, Ellisha Thomas, Carlita Victoria, Bobby Walker, LaNette Wallace, DaRon Williams, Juson Williams and Tangela Wilson.
The Color Purple features a book by Marsha Norman and music and lyrics by Brenda Russell, Allee Willis and Stephen Bray.
The musical, according to press notes, is an "inspiring family saga that tells the unforgettable story of a woman who, through love, finds the strength to triumph over adversity and discover her unique voice in the world. This musical adaptation of Alice Walker's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel (and the popular 1985 Stephen Spielberg film) spotlights Celie, a downtrodden young woman whose personal awakening over the course of 40 years forms the arc of this epic story."
