THE SCREENING ROOM: Happy Birthday, Bernadette Peters (Video)
By Playbill Staff
Two-time Tony winner Bernadette Peters celebrates her birthday Feb. 28. To mark the occasion, Playbill.com offers some highlights from her award-winning career.
Bernadette Peters sings "Unexpected Song" from her Tony-winning performance in Song & Dance.
Following her Tony-winning run in Song and Dance, Peters appeared on "The Tonight Show," where she performed Stephen Sondheim's "Broadway Baby"...
... and "Let Me Sing and I'm Happy." Following her performance, host Johnny Carson exclaimed, "Damn, you're good!"
On a subsequent "Tonight Show" appearance, Peters offered the risque "Making Love Alone"...
... and Hank Williams' "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry."
On a PBS tribute to ASCAP, Peters performed Marvin Hamlisch's award-winning "The Way We Were."
The PBS special also featured Peters' touching rendition of the World War II ballad, "My Buddy"...
... and another rendition of the Follies classic, "Broadway Baby."
Here is Peters performing Peter Pan's "I'm Flying" on Carol Burnett's most recent variety series.
During her award-winning run in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Song and Dance, Peters appeared on NBC's "Live at Five" to chat with Liz Smith. A clip of her performance of "English Girls" precedes the interview.
With Kermit, Fozzie and the gang, hosting "The Muppet Show." A charming performance of "Just One Person" from Snoopy.
Strutting through Kander and Ebb's "All That Jazz" on "The Carol Burnett Show" in 1975.
Her moving interpretation of "Not A Day Goes By," from "Sondheim: A Celebration at Carnegie Hall."
Almost three decades later, Mandy Patinkin and Bernadette have still got it. Has there been a better stage reunion moment in recent TV history? "Move On" revisited.
She stepped into the Broadway revival of A Little Night Music and brought new life to Desiree. This is just a snippet, but we love Bernadette's "Send In the Clowns."
Bernadette's turn as Rose during the 57th annual Tony Awards. Her Tony-nominated performance in Gypsy captured here on "Rose's Turn."
"The Little Drummer Boy"
Audio of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas"
Peters, Bing Crosby and Jackie Gleason Perform "Style" on Crosby's 1976 Christmas Special
Total bonus. There have to be a "few" fans out there who will be tickled to hear this disco version of "Thank You For Being A Friend," which we all know and love from "Golden Girls." (For the record, BP sang it before it became the GG theme song.)
