Paul Giamatti Is Yale Rep's Hamlet, Opening March 21; Marc Kudisch, Felicity Jones Among Cast

The Yale Repertory Theatre production of William Shakespeare's Hamlet, starring Golden Globe Award winner and Oscar nominee Paul Giamatti as the melancholy Dane, officially opens at the University Theatre in New Haven March 21 following previews that began March 15. Performances continue through April 13.
Directed by James Bundy, the cast also includes Mamoudou Athie, Gerry Bamman, Chris Bannow, Jarlath Conroy, Austin Durant, Lisa Emery, Robert David Grant, Felicity Jones, Patrick Kerr, Marc Kudisch, Erik Lochtefeld, Michael Manuel, Brooke Parks, Paul Pryce, Tommy Schrider, Mickey Theis, Charlie Tirrell, Timothy Hassler, Harriet Weaver and Remsen Welsh.
Giamatti was nominated for the Academy Award for his work in "Cinderella Man," and won the Golden Globe for playing the title character in the miniseries "John Adams" and for the film "Barney's Version."
The musicians comprise Michael Compitello, Brian Ellingsen, Christopher Scanlon, Bill Solomon and Maura Valenti.
The production also features original music composed by Sarah Pickett, set design by Meredith B. Ries, costumes by Jayoung Yoon, lighting by Stephen Strawbridge, sound by Keri Klick, fight direction by Rick Sordelet, vocal coaching by Grace Zandarski, movement coaching by Erica Fae, dramaturgy by Dana Tanner-Kennedy and stage management by Geoff Boronda.
"Academy Award nominee Paul Giamatti returns to the Yale Rep stage as the Prince of Denmark in Hamlet, Shakespeare’s harrowing tragedy of corruption, betrayal, and madness," according to Yale Rep. "Haunted by a ghostly revelation that his father, the King, was murdered, Hamlet puts into motion a vengeful plan that will have devastating consequences for his family and the kingdom."
This production is part of Shakespeare for a New Generation, a national program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest.
