Young Jean Lee's We're Gonna Die Will Play Lincoln Center Theater Encore Run
By Adam Hetrick
Obie Award-winning playwright Young Jean Lee will return to Lincoln Center Theater this summer with an encore engagement of her acclaimed song cycle We're Gonna Die at the Claire Tow Theater.
Lee won a 2011 Obie Award for the darkly comic piece, which premiered at Joe's Pub in 2011 as part of the 13P playwrights collective. In summer 2012 it played a limited four-performance run at the Claire Tow – the home of Lincoln Center Theater's developmental intiative LCT3. It will return for an Aug. 5-17 run this summer.
We're Gonna Die is written and performed by Lee, with music by the band Future Wife, choreography by Faye Driscoll and direction by Paul Lazar. Band members include Mike Hanf, Andrew Hoepfner, Booker Stardrum and Ben Kupstas.
The piece is billed as a "life-affirming show about the thing everyone has in common: WE'RE GONNA DIE. You may be miserable, but you won't be alone."
We're Gonna Die has costumes by Roxana Ramseur, lighting by Tyler Micoleau and sound by Jamie McElhinney.
Lee is currently under commission from Plan B/Paramount Pictures, Lincoln Center Theater, Playwrights Horizons and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. She serves as artistic director of the Young Jean Lee Theatre Company, and has directed the plays The Shipment; Church; Pullman, WA; Songs of the Dragons Flying to Heaven; The Appeal; and Groundwork of Metaphysic Morals. Her adaptation of Lear played an extended run at Soho Rep in 2010.
