Beau Bridges, Jean Smart and Cecily Strong Set for Broadway Benefit Reading of Matt Hoverman's The Glint
By Michael Gioia
Beau Bridges (How to Succeed, Who's Who in Hell), Jean Smart (The Man Who Came to Dinner, Piaf) and Cecily Strong ("Saturday Night Live") will star in a one-night-only reading of The Glint, a new play by Matt Hoverman, April 22 at 7 PM at Broadway's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre.
Directed by Broadway veteran Michael Mastro (West Side Story, Side Man), The Glint is described as "a mean little comedy about folks in their 60s with the hearts (and maturity) of teenagers."
The Glint, to benefit Opening Act — a nonprofit that provides free after-school theatre programming to New York City's most under-served public high schools — will mark the organization's return to Broadway for its 7th annual Benefit Play Reading.
The 2012 reading of Collected Stories starred Stockard Channing (Other Desert Cities, The West Wing) and Laura Benanti (Gypsy). Past events have featured the talents of Cynthia Nixon (Wit, Rabbit Hole), John Slattery (Rabbit Hole) in Hate Mail; Edie Falco ("Nurse Jackie") and the original cast of Side Man for the play’s 10th anniversary reunion; and Bernadette Peters (Follies, Gypsy) and John Dossett (Newsies, Gypsy) in Love Letters.
Tickets are $500 (includes admission to an exclusive post-show discussion and champagne toast with The Glint's playwright, director and members of the cast; program recognition; and a 2012-13 Rising Star Sponsorship in Opening Act's Adopt a School Program, which supports an Opening Act student for an entire year of after-school theatre programming), $225 (includes admission to an exclusive post-show discussion and champagne toast with The Glint's playwright, director, and members of the cast; program recognition) and $125 (performance only).
