Jason Robert Brown's Last Five Years Begins Signature Engagement April 2
By Andrew Gans
Jason Robert Brown's two-person song cycle, The Last Five Years, which replaced the previously announced Crimes of the Heart, begins performances at Virginia's Signature Theatre April 2.
Directed by Aaron Posner, the production will continue through April 28 in the MAX Theatre.
The two-hander features James Gardiner (Chess, [title of show]) and Erin Weaver (Xanadu).
"From first date to final goodbye," The Last Five Years, according to the Signature, "chronicles the highs and lows of modern marriage in an intimate, honest and richly moving musical portrait. Through the course of 14 songs, rising novelist Jamie and struggling actress Cathy separately tell their own account of their five-year relationship."
The production also features scenic design by Daniel Conway, costume design by Kathleen Geldard, lighting design by Andrew F. Griffin, sound design by Matt Rowe and music direction by William Yanesh.
The musical is currently enjoying an Off-Broadway revival at Second Stage Theater.
Performances at the Signature are Tuesday and Wednesday at 7:30 PM, Thursday-Saturday at 8 PM, Sunday at 7 PM and Saturday and Sunday at 2 PM.
Tickets start at $40 and are available by phone at (703) 573-SEAT, online at signature-theatre.org, or in person at the Signature Box Office at 4200 Campbell Avenue in Shirlington.
