Top Two "American Idol" Finalists Revealed; Two-Night Finale Set for May 15-16
By Andrew Gans
And then there were two. The finalists who will vie for the title of "American Idol" were named during the May 9 broadcast of Fox's singing competition.
Singers Candice Glover and Kree Harrison will compete next week to determine who will become the newest "American Idol," following in the footsteps of Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Fantasia, Phillip Phillips and more. (Angie Miller, 19, from Beverly, MA, received the least number of votes and was eliminated from the competition May 9.)
When asked what winning "American Idol" would mean to them, the two remaining contestants gave the following responses:
Candice Glover: “It would mean the absolute world. I definitely feel like, no matter what, I’ve come so far. Everything I've worked for will have paid off.”
Kree Harrison: “It would mean so much because it would mean the sooner I’d get to make my record! More than anything, I would feel accomplished, knowing that I could make music.”
In addition to performances from the two finalists, the May 15 broadcast, which begins at 8 PM ET, will also feature Carly Rae Jepsen performing her new song, “Take A Picture.” The May 16 finale airs 8 PM-10:07 PM ET.
Former "American Idol" contestants who have taken to Broadway after their stint on "Idol" include Fantasia Barrino (The Color Purple), Clay Aiken (Spamalot), Constantine Maroulis (Rock of Ages), Diana DeGarmo (Hairspray), Frenchie Davis (Rent) and Jordin Sparks (In the Heights) as well as former "Idol" judge Kara DioGuardi (Chicago), among others.
