NBC's "Smash" ends its run May 26. The Playbill Vault has all the Playbill covers from the fictional productions featured throughout the series.

In Season 1, composer Tom Levitt (Christian Borle) and lyricist Julia Houston (Debra Messing) collaborate on the Marilyn Monroe biomusical. Broadway chorine Ivy Lynn (Megan Hilty) and newcomer Karen Cartwright (Katharine McPhee) vie for the lead role.

Amidst financial crises, cast turmoil, publicity disasters and nervous breakdowns, Bombshell makes its world premiere in Boston starring Karen Cartwright.

Season 2 returns to New York and Bombshell continues its efforts to make a Broadway bow. The cast stars Ivy Lynn and features characters played by Bernadette Peters, Julian Ovenden and Savannah Wise. The musical opens at the Lily Hayes Theatre (though the prop Playbill says the Lyceum Theatre).

A new show, Hit List, premieres downtown. When one of the show's creators dies in a car accident, Hit List secures the funding for a Broadway transfer, pitting it against Bombshell at the Tony Awards. The previews cast features Karen, Ana (Krysta Rodriguez) and Daisy (Mara Davi).
