Williamstown Season Adds Brooks Ashmanskas, De'Adre Aziza and Reed Birney

Brooks Ashmanskas, de'Adre Aziza and Reed Birney are among the latest actors to join the summer season at the Williamstown Theatre Festival.
Williamstown also announced that playwright Dominique Morisseau is the recipient of the 2012 L. Arnold Weissberger Award for Playwriting for her work Paradise Blue. Morisseau will receive a $10,000 grant and her play will be read as part of WTF's Fridays@3 series.
The new musical Johnny Baseball will feature Tony Award nominee de'Adre Aziza (Passing Strange), Andrew Kober (Hair), Kelly Karbacz, Brooks Ashmanskas (The Producers) and Tom McGowan ("Fraiser"), who replaces Burke Moses. Previously announced cast includes James Snyder, Joe Cassidy, Alan H. Green and Roger Robinson. Directed by Gordon Greenberg and featuring choreography by Denis Jones, Johnny Baseball runs July 24-Aug. 3.
The world-premiere musical The Bridges of Madison County, featuring a score by Jason Robert Brown and a book by Marsha Norman, will also feature Daniel Jenkins (Mary Poppins), Jennifer Allen (Sister Act), Michael X. Martin (Catch Me If You Can), Laura Shoop (Jerry Springer The Opera), as well as the previously announced Nick Bailey, Cass Morgan, Whitney Bashor, Caitlin Kinnunen, Elena Shaddow as Francesca and Steven Pasquale as Robert Kincaid. Bartlett Sher directs.
Reed Birney (Circle Mirror Transformation) has replaced James Cromwell in Tom Stoppard's Hapgood, which also features Kate Burton, Jason Butler Harner, Jake Weber and Victor Williams. It runs July 10–21.
After starring in the 2009 Goodman Theatre production, Joey Slotnick (The Big Knife) joins the cast of Animal Crackers as Groucho. The cast also includes Joey Sorge (Nice Work if You Can Get It), Brad Aldous as Harpo, as well as Jonathan Brody, Adam Chanler-Berat, Mara Davi, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Ellen Harvey, and Jacob Ming-Trent. It runs June 26-July 14.
Caitlin O'Connell joins Heather Lind, Robert Sean Leonard, Patricia Conolly, Don Lee Sparks and Paxton Whitehead in Pygmalion, directed by Nicholas Martin July 17-27.
Tony Award nominee Omar Metwally (Sixteen Wounded) joins the world-premiere cast of Bess Wohl’s American Hero, which also features Ari Graynor, Erin Wilhelmi and James Waterston, who replaces Josh Stamberg. It runs June 26-July 7.
The Debate Society's Blood Play will feature Paul Thureen, Michael Cyril Creighton, Hannah Bos, Hanlon Smith-Dorsey, Birgit Huppuch and Emma Galvin. The play runs Aug. 7-18.
The Fridays@3 series will include The Bay of Fundy by Sherry Kramer (July 12); Understanding Artichokes by Maria Tucci and Mary Tannen (July 19); Paradise Blue by Dominique Morisseau (Aug. 2); Cousin Bette adapted by Jeffrey Hatcher from Honoré de Balzac's novel (Aug. 9); and Important Hats of the Twentieth Century by Nick Jones (Aug. 16).
