By Michael Gioia
Nick Adams, Corey Mach and Ariana DeBose were among the performers who took part in Broadway Backs Boston, an evening where Broadway performers come together to support those affected by the Boston Marathon tragedy, May 6 in New York City. Here are highlights from the evening.
"In light of the recent tragedy in Boston, 15+ members of the Broadway community perform[ed] at the Beechman," according to press notes. "All proceeds will go to the One Fund Boston. This charity was set up to help the people most affected by the unfortunate event that occurred in Boston on April 15."
Performers included Adams (Pricilla Queen of the Desert, La Cage aux Folles), Larkin Bogan (Hair, Wicked), Matt DeAngelis (Hair, American Idiot), Jeanna de Waal (Wicked, American Idiot), Dan Gleason (American Idiot), Marcus Paul James (In The Heights, Rent), Morgan James (Motown: The Musical, Godspell), Mach (Hands on a Hardbody, Godspell), Ben Thompson (Matilda The Musical, American Idiot) and DeBose (Motown, Bring It On), among others. The concerts were musically directed by Eli Zoller.
"As a native Bostonian and longtime New York resident, it broke my heart to see my neighbors and friends in such pain broadcast on the television," said performer DeAngelis in an earlier statement. "I'm incredibly humbled by the support of the Broadway community coming together to help organize this event to aid those in need. This is going to be a very special night, not to be missed."
