Tony Winner Kristin Chenoweth Will Make Guest Appearance on New Kirstie Alley TV Series
By Andrew Gans
Tony and Emmy Award winner Kristin Chenoweth will guest star on TV Land's new Kirstie Alley series "Kirstie," which will premiere in December on the cable network.
Former "Cheers" star Alley executive produces the comedy and plays Broadway actress Madison “Maddie” Banks. the The cast also features Rhea Perlman (“Cheers”), Michael Richards (“Seinfeld”) and Eric Petersen (Shrek: The Musical).
Broadway favorite Chenoweth will be seen as Britney Gold, "Maddie's conniving understudy who will do anything - or anyone - to get onstage," according to press notes. "When Maddie finally offers her the opportunity, in exchange for an unseemly favor, Britney doesn’t give it a second thought."
"Kirstie," according to production notes, is described as such: "Maddie (Kirstie Alley) finds her life turned upside down when Arlo (Eric Petersen), the son she gave up at birth, suddenly appears, hoping to connect after his adoptive parents have died. However, Maddie doesn’t exactly see nerdy and schlubby Arlo fitting in with her luxurious lifestyle. But when Maddie’s assistant and best friend, Thelma (Rhea Perlman), and outlandish driver Frank (Michael Richards) encourage her to give Arlo a chance, Maddie is shocked to find that perhaps she has motherly instincts after all."
Chenoweth won the Tony Award in 1999 for her performance in You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown. She was nominated in 2004 for her performance in Wicked and has also been seen on Broadway in Steel Pier, Epic Proportions, The Apple Tree and Promises, Promises. The actress is also known for her award-winning film and television work, including "Glee," "Pushing Daisies" and the recent ABC series "GCB."
