Michael Mejas' award-winning Ghetto Babylon opens Aug. 8, following preview performances that began Aug. 1.

The limited run will continue performances through Aug. 18.

Directed by Gregory Simmons, the cast features Malik Ali ("Boardwalk Empire"), Sean Carvajal ("Crush"), Talia Marrero, Alejandro Rodriguez (Romeo & Juliet), Rodney Roldan ("Nurse Jackie") and Andrew Schoomaker.

"1982 —  South Bronx, USA. When Charlie Rosa receives a letter, his life becomes about big secrets, little lies, and humongous pressure," press notes state. "Luckily, he has one hell of an imaginary friend. A coming of age story about a summer of baseball, bullies, boarding school and...girls. It’s hard being fourteen."

Mejas was awarded the 2012 National Latino Playwriting Award for Ghetto Babylon, which was performed at The Huron Club at SoHo Playhouse for the Dramatic Question Theatre in November 2011.
