Elizabeth Olsen and Julian Cihi Are Star-Crossed Lovers in CSC's Romeo and Juliet, Opening Oct. 16
By Carey Purcell
The Classic Stage Company production of Romeo and Juliet, starring Julian Cihi and Elizabeth Olsen in the respective title roles, officially opens Oct. 16 following previews that began Sept. 28.
Directed by Tea Alagić, performances continue through Nov. 10.
Along with Olsen (Impressionism) and Cihi (The Importance of Being Earnest, A Month in the Country), the cast includes Daniel Davis (La Cage aux Folles, "The Nanny") as Friar Laurence, Emmy Award nominee T.R. Knight (A Life In The Theatre, Tartuffe) as Mercutio and two-time Tony nominee Daphne Rubin-Vega (Rent, Anna in the Tropics) as the Nurse.
The company also features McKinley Belcher III (Benvolio), Stan Demidoff (Paris/Sampson), Harry Ford (Gregory, Friar John, Watchman), David Garrison (Capulet), Anthony Michael Martinez (Prince), Kathryn Meisle (Lady Capulet), Dion Mucciacito (Tybalt) and John Rothman (Montague/Apothecary).
"I feel very lucky that I'm doing this play because every day I get to prep myself and I get to be infected with love," Olsen, the show's Juliet, told Playbill.com in a recent interview. "That's a really lucky thing, as opposed to the most existential, 'We have no hope' situation. The good thing about Juliet is she has hope until she kills herself. It feels really amazing to be infected with that kind of energy for the amount of time we're going to be running the show."
The production has set design by Marsha Ginsberg, costumes by Clint Ramos, lighting by Jason Lyons and sound by Ryan Rumery.
