World Premiere of The Miss Longview Texas Drag Pageant to Play Times Square Arts Building
By Carey Purcell
The Miss Longview Texas Drag Pageant will make its world premiere in December.
Performances begin Dec. 12 at the John DeSotelle Studio #301 in the Times Square Arts Building and continue through Dec. 15. A second extended engagement will play the same venue beginning Jan. 17, 2014, and will run through Feb. 2.
Written and directed by Mark Hooker, The Miss Longview Texas Drag Pageant will feature Robert Agis ("Law and Order"), David M. Farrington (Baptized), Annabel Guevara (Teatro Vivo), Daniel Keith (Rambler), Chris Rivera (Hedwig and The Angry Inch), Max Henry Schloner (The Shape of Things), Nathan Shapiro (The Pillowman), Scott Silvestro (Raft of Medusa) and Ali Wetzel (Women of Manhattan).
Here's how the production is billed: "A gay Thanksgiving gathering at the Longview East Texas Victorian home of former drag performer, Dinky and his partner Renny replete with pinecone turkeys and apple martinis anticipates an evening Drag Contest at the local high school to be judged by none other than hometown boy and film star, Matthew McConaughey. The gathering is complicated by the unwelcome arrival of a saucy high school teacher and her sexually ambiguous former husband (the town sheriff) who expose secrets and deceptions of invited guests. Further mayhem ensues when an escaped convict takes the group hostage, and a mysterious light from the sky conjures thoughts of unwelcome alien guests, forcing everyone to ask the question, 'are we alone in the universe'?"
