By Adam Hetrick
A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder writers Robert L. Freedman and Steven Lutvak will discuss the creation of their new musical as part of the Sundance Institute Theatre Club series, Dec. 11 at the Palm West Restaurant.
The 6 PM event, which will also include Sundance Institute Theatre Program artistic director Philip Himberg and producing director Christopher Hibma, will precede an 8 PM performance of A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder. The musical was developed at the Sundance Theatre Lab.
Based on the 1907 novel "Israel Rank" by Roy Horniman, A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder opened on Broadway Nov. 17 at the Walter Kerr Theatre. Critics praised the musical that has a book by Freedman, music by Lutvak and lyrics by Freedman and Lutvak. Darko Tresnjak directs, and Peggy Hickey choreographs. It stars Tony Award winner Jefferson Mays.
Sundance has also nurtured such new works as Little Miss Sunshine, Fun Home, Appropriate, The Body of an American and When We Were Young and Unafraid.
