Zach Grenier and Genevieve Angelson Will Lead Benefit Reading of Gloria, Based on F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Beautiful and Damned"
By Michael Gioia
The Wild Root Company will present a benefit reading of Gloria, a brand-new screenplay adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Beautiful and Damned," Jan. 6, 2014, at The Mainstage at Playwrights Horizons. Tony Award nominee Zach Grenier and Genevieve Angelson will lead the cast.
All profits raised from the evening, scheduled to begin at 8 PM, will benefit the Ali Forney Center for Homeless LGBTQ Youth.
Joining Grenier (Man and Boy, 33 Variations, "The Good Wife") and Angelson (Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, "House of Lies") will be Zachary Spicer (Wit), Josh Banks, Jean Brassard, Rachel Annette Helson, Ed Malone, Lauren Schaffel, Douglas Taurel and Leigh Wade, among others.
Here's how Wild Root bills the reading: "Gloria, which has been cleverly adapted from Fitzgerald's celebrated novel by rising young writer Daniel Mitura, tells the provocative story of a young man’s struggle to survive in an unforgiving world, and the love of a lifetime that made it all worth fighting for. Audiences who attend the evening will be the first to experience the new work. Mitura's stage adaptation of Oscar Wilde's 'The Picture of Dorian Gray' premiered to acclaim at Theatre Row in 2010."
The Wild Root Company is a New York City-based production endeavor committed to "cultivating and presenting bold and challenging new works of theatre and film from emerging playwrights and screenwriters."
The Mainstage Theater at Playwrights Horizons is located at 416 West 42nd Street (between 9th and 10th Avenues). For more information and tickets, visit WildRoot.org.
