Carole King Honored as MusiCares Person of the Year Jan. 24; Alicia Keys, Pink, James Taylor, Lady Gaga and More Perform

Grammy Award winner Carole King, whose life and music are the basis for the new Broadway musical Beautiful, is honored as the 2014 MusiCares Person of the Year Jan. 24 in Los Angeles.



King is being honored for her "extraordinary creative accomplishments as well as her significant charitable work, which has included an impressive range of philanthropic activities over the years. In addition to her continuously evolving musical career, King is actively involved with environmental organizations in support of forest ecosystem protection as well as a range of political causes."

Among the artists announced to perform in King's honor are Sara Bareilles, Louise Goffin, Amy Grant, Alicia Keys, Lady Gaga, Miguel, Pink, James Taylor, Steven Tyler, and will.i.am, among others. Music industry veterans Lou Adler, Martin Bandier and Rob Light, along with artist James Taylor, are tribute chairs. Composer and arranger Robbie Kondor is the evening's musical director.

King's hits are numerous. She has penned such songs as "Will You Love Me Tomorrow," "Natural Woman," "I Feel the Earth Move," "One Fine Day," "The Loco-Motion," "Take Good Care of My Baby," "Up on the Roof," "I'm Into Something Good" and "You've Got a Friend."

Proceeds from the annual Person of the Year tribute provide support for MusiCares, which "ensures that music people have a place to turn in times of financial, medical and personal need."
