Emmy winner Debra Messing, who is currently making her Broadway debut in John Patrick Shanley's Outside Mullingar, has landed the lead role in a new pilot for NBC, according to Deadline.com.

Entitled "The Mysteries of Laura," the hour-long project is based on the Spanish series "Los Misterios De Laura."

This program, according to Deadline, follows "the life and relationships of Laura Diamond (Messing), a female homicide detective who can handle murderous criminals — but not her hell-raising twin children."

The pilot, written by Jeff Rake, will be directed by McG.

Warner Bros. TV, Greg Berlanti's Berlanti Prods. and Aaron Kaplan's Kapital Entertainment are producing the pilot, which will be filmed in New York following the limited engagement of Outside Mullingar.

Messing previously starred in the NBC series "Smash" and "Will & Grace."
