The Tony Award-winning musical Kinky Boots will go dark on Broadway May 8-13, while television network Univision utilizes the Al Hirschfeld Theatre for upfront presentations. As a result, an updated performance schedule has been announced to accommodate theatregoers in the coming weeks.

In addition to renting out Kinky Boots' Broadway home, the Al Hirschfeld Theatre, Univision is also paying for all eight performances that will be missed during the May 8-13 upfront presentations. The musical will only miss four shows each week in its regularly-planned performance schedule. The entire company of the Broadway musical will be paid during the hiatus as if the production were playing its regular Broadway schedule.

Producers of Kinky Boots have added performances on the following dates: Monday, May 5 at 8 PM; Tuesday, May 6 at 7 PM, Wednesday, May 7 at 2 PM & 8 PM; Wednesday, May 14 at 2 PM & 8 PM; Thursday, May 15 at 7 PM; Friday, May 16 at 8 PM; Saturday, May 17 at 2 PM & 8 PM; and Sunday 5/18 at 2PM & 7:30 PM

Based on the 2005 film of the same title, the Northampton, U.K.-set musical has a new book by Tony winner Harvey Fierstein (Torch Song Trilogy, La Cage aux Folles, Newsies) and a score by Grammy and Tony Award-winning "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" hit-maker and "True Colors" songwriter Cyndi Lauper.

Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell (2004's La Cage aux Folles, Legally Blonde, Catch Me If You Can), who created the high-energy dances that sent audiences and cast members into a frenzy during Hairspray, directs and choreographs Kinky Boots, which is bedazzled with a series of show-stopping numbers by Porter and a bevy of drag performers.

Kinky Boots premiered on Broadway March 3, 2013, following an out-of-town engagement at the Bank of America Theatre in Chicago last fall. It opened to acclaim April 4 at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre.

In addition to taking Best Musical and Tony wins for Lauper (Best Score), Mitchell (Best Choreography) and Billy Porter (Best Actor), Kinky Boots also saw awards go to Stephen Oremus (Orchestrations) and John Shivers (Sound Design).

The cast features Tony Award winner Porter, Andy Kelso, Jeanna de Waal, Daniel Stewart Sherman, Cortney Wolfson, Marcus Neville, Paul Canaan, Kevin Smith Kirkwood, Kyle Taylor Parker, Kyle Post, Charlie Sutton, Joey Taranto, Adinah Alexander, Douglas Baldeo, Eugene Barry-Hill, Stephen Berger, Cameron Colley, Sandra DeNise, Anna Eilinsfeld, Natalie Joy Johnson, D’Andre Lee, Eric Leviton, Ellyn Marie Marsh, John Jeffrey Martin, Abby Mueller, Jake Odmark, Nathan Peck, Robert Pendilla, Jennifer Perry, Sebastian Hedges Thomas, Stephen Tewksbury, and Timothy Ware.
