The Green Bird to Close at Cort Theatre, June 4

The Green Bird, which saw its weekly capacity figures slip once again this week, this time to a low of 35 percent, will close on June 4 with the 3 PM show, productions sources announced.

Directed by Tony Award winning director and designer Julie Taymor (The Lion King), The Green Bird tallied 16 previews, 55 performances, two Tony nominations (featured actor, costumes) and an Outer Critics Circle Award (costume) during its run at the Cort Theatre.

Green Bird features music by Elliot Goldenthal and was translated by Albert Bermel and Ted Emery from the Italian tale by Carlo Gozzi. The show started previews April 1 and opened April 18. The Green Bird cast features Ken Barnett, Reg E. Cathey, Bill Cohen, Didi Conn, Ned Eisenberg, Ramon Flowers, Jan Leslie Harding, Edward Hibbert, Lee Lewis, Katie MacNichol, Reggie Montgomery, Sarah Jane Nelson, Kristine Nielsen, Tricia Paoluccio, Meredith Patterson, Sebastian Roché, Sophia Salguero, Derek Smith, Bruce Turk, Erico Villanueva and Andrew Weems.

The production team comprises set designer Christine Jones, costume designer Constance Hoffman (2000 Outer Critics Circle Award winner and Tony nominee) and lighting designer Donald Holder. Director Taymor designed the masks as well as the puppets for the production.
