Broadway legend Joel Grey celebrated his 72nd birthday in proper fashion on April 12, surrounded by the best and brightest stars from a career, and life, spanning five decades on the boards.

Grey is currently appearing as the Wizard of Oz in Wicked. He was awarded the dual honors for his now famous portrayal of a Hitler-esque Emcee in the original and film versions of Cabaret. Among his many other memorables are performances in Come Blow Your Horn, Stop the World - I Want to Get Off, George M!, Goodtime Charley, and Amos Hart in the revival of Chicago.

Grey's birthday bash was held at Michael's on West 55th Street in New York City. Among the many guests were Jed Bernstein, Hugh Jackman and wife Deborra-Lee Furness, Kristen Chenoweth (glasses), Joe Mantello, Stephen Schwartz, Bernadette Peters, Wayne Cilento, and Bebe Neuwirth. Below, Grey gets some help with all those candles from Chenoweth, Liz Smith, Kitty Carlisle Hart, Peters, Chita Rivera, and Neuwirth.
