PHOTO CALL: The Beast Turns Ten; First Disney Musical Celebrates Birthday
By Morgan Allen
Beauty and the Beast, the first in a string of wildly succesful film-to-musical adaptations of Disney films, celebrated it's tenth year on Broadway on April 18. Originally opening at Broadway's Palace Theatre with stars Susan Egan and Terrence Mann, Beauty and the Beast was nominated for nine Tony Awards in 1994, winning for Ann Hould-Ward's costume design. At left are current Belle-actress Christy Carlson Romano and CEO Michael Eisner, with actors Mary Stout and Gary Beach. Below, composer Alan Menken, former Beast's James Barbour and Chuck Wagner, and director Robert Jess Roth at the ESPN Zone located at 1472 Broadway in New York City's Times Square.
