Roger Bart to Replace Chris Kattan in The Frogs
Just days before Lincoln Center Theater's The Frogs is to go before the critics, the production has announced that Tony winner Roger Bart will replace Chris Kattan in the Stephen Sondheim musical.
Bart has been rehearsing the role of Nathan Lane's sidekick, and will give his first performance by mid-week, according to the statement; in the meantime, understudy Timothy Gulan will perform the part beginning Monday, July 12.
At this time, the show is still scheduled to open July 22.
The recasting marks the reunion of Roger Bart with his Producers co-star Lane, as well as his Producers director and choreographer, Susan Stroman. Bart was Tony-nominated for the role of Carmen Ghia in the Mel Brooks musical, after having previously won the award for You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown.
The show, "freely adapted" from the Aristophanes comedy by Burt Shevelove, "even more freely adapted" by Nathan Lane, features music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim.
