"Angels in America," Elaine Stritch and Laura Linney Among Creative Emmy Winners

The 2003-2004 Creative Arts Primetime Emmy Awards were announced Sept. 12 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. Elaine Stritch: At Liberty, the HBO airing of the veteran actress' Tony-winning one-woman show, also nabbed an Emmy for Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Special. Another winner of interest to theatre fans is actress Laura Linney, who was recently back on The Great White Way in the Broadway bow of Sight Unseen. Linney won an Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her performance as Charlotte on NBC's "Frasier." And, the Showtime adaptation of "The Lion in Winter" won a Creative Arts Emmy for Outstanding Costumes for a Miniseries, Movie or a Special. Emmys in 27 other categories will be presented Sept. 19, 2004, during the 2004 Primetime Emmy Awards. ABC Network will broadcast the event live, beginning at 8 PM ET.
