Jersey Boys Have Their Backup; Full Cast Announced for New Four Seasons Musical
By Kenneth Jones
The complete cast of the Broadway musical Jersey Boys was announced Aug. 10, just less than two months before the show about the pop group The Four Seasons begins at the Virginia Theatre.
Joining the already-announced four actors who'll play the vocal group — Christian Hoff (as Tommy DeVito), Daniel Reichard (as Bob Gaudio), J. Robert Spencer (as Nick Massi) and John Lloyd Young (as Frankie Valli) — will be Tituss Burgess, Steve Gouveia, Peter Gregus, Donnie Kehr, Michael Longoria, Mark Lotito, Jennifer Naimo, Dominic Nolfi, Erica Piccininni and Sara Schmidt.
The show, which enjoyed a popular test run at the La Jolla Playhouse, will produced on Broadway by Dodger Theatricals, Joseph J. Grano, Pelican Group, Tamara and Kevin Kinsella.
Jersey Boys has a book by Marshall Brickman & Rick Elice, music by Bob Gaudio, lyrics by Bob Crewe, and is directed by Tony Award-winner Des McAnuff (700 Sundays, The Who's Tommy, Big River). It begins preview performances Oct. 4 and officially opens on Nov. 6.
"This is the story of how a group of blue-collar boys from the wrong side of the tracks became one of the biggest American pop music sensations of all time," according to the producers. "They wrote their own songs, invented their own sounds and sold 175 million records worldwide — all before they were 30."
Jersey Boys will feature their hit songs "Sherry," "Big Girls Don't Cry," "Rag Doll," "Oh What a Night" and "Can't Take My Eyes Off of You" and more.
The creative team includes choreographer Sergio Trujillo and Klara Zieglerova (scenic design), Jess Goldstein (costume design), Howell Binkley (lighting design), Steve Canyon Kennedy (sound design), Michael Clark (projections design), Charles LaPointe (wig and hair design), Steve Orich (orchestrations), Ron Melrose (music direction, vocal arrangements and incidental music), John Miller (music coordinator), Steve Rankin (fight director), Steven Gabis (dialect coach), Tara Rubin Casting (casting), Peter Fulbright (technical production).
