Proof Stars Paltrow and Hopkins Push Movie on Talk Shows Prior to Sept. 16 Debut

Gwyneth Paltrow and Anthony Hopkins — stars of the upcoming "Proof" film — will be hitting the talk-show circuit this week in preparation for the Sept. 16 release of the movie.

Paltrow kicks off the promoting push late Tuesday night/early Wednesday morning on NBC's "Late Night With Conan O'Brien" at 12:37 AM, followed by Sept. 14 appearances at NBC's "Today" at 7 AM and ABC's "The View" at 11 AM. On Sept. 15, the actress will be seen on CBS's "The Early Show" at 7 AM, NBC's "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" at 10 AM and Comedy Central's "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" at 11 PM.

Her co-star Hopkins follows her lead with Sept. 15 (late Wednesday night) at NBC's "Late Night With Conan O'Brien" (NBC) at 12:37 AM, NBC's "Today" at 7 AM then a Sept. 16 spot on ABC's "Live With Regis and Kelly" at 9 AM. All times are ET.

The movie of David Auburn's Proof — starring Academy Award winner Gwyneth Paltrow — features a screenplay by Auburn and Rebecca Miller. Paltrow heads the cast as Catherine, a woman who may or may not be as mathematically gifted as her troubled genius of a father. The other central characters are played on screen by Jake Gyllenhaal (Hal), Anthony Hopkins (Robert) and Hope Davis (Claire).

John Madden — who directed Paltrow in the London engagement of the play at the Donmar Warehouse — directed the film set to open wide Sept. 16.

Proof opened at Broadway's Walter Kerr Theatre on Oct. 24, 2000, playing 916 performances before closing Jan. 5, 2003. The original cast included Mary-Louise Parker, who won a Tony Award for her performance; Larry Bryggman; Johanna Day; and Ben Shenkman. Under the direction of Daniel Sullivan, the production also won the 2001 Tony Award for Best Play as well as the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
