Additional casting has been announced for the upcoming industry reading of the musical Ghostlight, which will be presented Dec. 2 at the New 42nd Street Studios.
Ghostlight, which has book, music and lyrics by Matthew Martin and Tim Realbuto, tells the "true story of Ziegfeld Follies girl and silent film star Olive Thomas, her rise to fame in the Follies alongside Fanny Brice, her affair with a married Ziegfeld, her Hollywood marriage to movie star Jack Pickford, and ultimately her tragic downfall which led to her mysterious death at age 25 in Paris," according to press notes.
Newly announced for the reading are Pippin star Rachel Bay Jones and Jennifer Hope Wills (Wonderful Town; The Phantom of the Opera). Jones will play Molly Cook, a comedienne in the Follies and Olive’s best friend who ultimately unlocks a major secret; Wills will play Doris/Cora/Lois Long and others. Casting for the roles of Billie Burke and Olive Thomas will be announced shortly.
Ghostlight had a sold-out and extended run at Off-Broadway’s Signature Theatre in 2011 as part of the New York Musical Theatre Festival. It was directed by creators Martin and Realbuto.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
