Performances will begin Sept. 16, prior to an official opening Sept. 24. It will run through Oct. 25 at the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage.
Here's how the production is billed: "In Your Arms features ten dance vignettes — written by a unprecedented collection of preeminent playwrights — that each tell a story without words of a pair of lovers, constituting an evening of storytelling, dance and music with a cast of more than 20 performers. Some are tragic, some are farces, some are brooding. The stories take place in different time periods and locations, but are all bound by love."
The musical had its developmental premiere at the Powerhouse Theatre at Vassar College last summer. It features vignettes written by the likes of Douglas Carter Beane, Nilo Cruz, Christopher Durang, Carrie Fisher, David Henry Hwang, Rajiv Joseph, Terrence McNally, Marsha Norman, Lynn Nottage and Alfred Uhry, with Stephen Flaherty’s music joining them all.
Flaherty is a frequent collaborator with Tony Award winner Lynn Ahrens. The two are known for the musicals Ragtime, Once on This Island, A Man of No Importance and My Favorite Year, among others. Their last Broadway outing was the short-lived musical Rocky, based on the popular film. The writers are also developing a Broadway adaptation of their animated feature "Anastasia," which was workshopped earlier this year with Tony Award-winning A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder director Darko Tresnjak at the helm. Their latest work, Little Dancer, inspired by the work of sculptor Edgar Degas, received its world premiere at the Kennedy Center. That musical is slated to arrive at the Center Theatre Group's Ahmanson Theatre this summer.
Gattelli is a Tony Award winner for his work on Newsies and choreographed Altar Boyz in the first season of NYMF. Gattelli subsequently garnered Drama Desk and Lucille Lortel Award wins for Altar Boyz and then went on to gain Broadway credits including High Fidelity, South Pacific and 13.
