Reading of Mona Mansour's The Way West to Feature Gayle Rankin and Deirdre O'Connell
18 Oct 2012
Gayle Rankin, Raul Castillo and Deirdre O'Connell will take part in a workshop of Mona Mansour's The Way West, which will be presented by the Lark Play Development Center in November.
Linsay Firman will direct the Nov. 2-11 workshop that will offer public performances. Workshop performances take place at the Lark's BareBones Studio.
Rankin (Tribes), Castillo (A Lifetime Burning) and O'Connell (The Front Page) are joined by Nadia Bowers, Curran Connor, Patricia Randell and David Shih.
The Way West, according to the Lark, "tells the story of a modern-day, falling-apart California town, where Mom shares with her two squabbling daughters death-defying tales of pioneer crossings as she waits for her bankruptcy to come through. Stories are stretched, songs are broken into, and checks are forged as Mom and her grown girls scrape for survival."
The Lark's BareBones workshops include three weeks of rehearsal in advance of eight public presentations.
Mansour's The Hour of Feeling received its world premiere a the Humana Festival, while urge for Going was staged as part of the Public Lab in 2011. Her works also include Across the Water, Girl Scouts of America and Broadcast Yourself.
