"Aging psychedelic rock star Carl is convinced that he has a brain tumor. His best friend plans to distract him from his delusions by reuniting their old band for a comeback show in Golden Gate Park," press notes state. "As rehearsals progress, old conflicts reemerge and old flirtations reignite—until the band learns Carl is really dying, and they don’t have long to say goodbye. A meditation on what we inherit—positive and negative—from the Sixties, and the search for transcendence in art and comedy."
Out Loud is Ars Nova’s free play-reading series dedicated to developing new work by emerging playwrights.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
