Relativity has acquired the U.S. distribution rights for the comedy "Hector and The Search For Happiness," according to Deadline.com.
Directed by Peter Chelsom, the film's cast includes Simon Pegg ("Star Trek," "Shaun of the Dead"), Tony and Academy Award nominee Toni Collette (The Wild Party, The Realistic Joneses), Rosamund Pike ("An Education," "Gone Girl"), Stellan Skarsgard ("The Avengers," "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo"), Jean Reno ("The Da Vinci Code," "Mission: Impossible") and Tony and Academy Award winner Christopher Plummer (Barrymore, King Lear).
The script, based on the best-selling novel by François Lelord, was written by Maria von Heland, Tinker Lindsay and Chelsom. It follows a disillusioned psychiatrist (Pegg) searching the globe to find the secret to happiness.
Relativity has dated the film for a Sept. 26 platform opening. It will receive an expand release Oct. 3.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
