Herzog earned acclaim for her play, which premiered in 2011 as part of LCT3 and returned in summer 2012 for a full Off-Broadway run at Lincoln Center Theater. The original starred Tony Award winner Mary Louise Wilson and Gabriel Ebert.
Jane Page stages the Rep production that runs through Feb. 3.
Veteran actress Gardner (A Family Affair, Pal Joey, The Wedding Singer) portrays Vera, with Dan McCabe as her grandson Leo. The cast also includes Lisa Helmi Johanson as Amanda and Katie McClellan as Bec.
Here's how it's billed: "Leo biked for a month from Seattle to New York, but it's a small Greenwich Village apartment where his real journey begins. Reeling from a tragedy, the rudderless twenty-something arrives at the doorstep of his 91 year-old grandmother Vera, an old lefty navigating the rough waters of aging. Together, these two outsiders find their way in one of this year's most touching new plays."
