Robin De Jesus
Two-time Tony Award nominee Robin De Jesus, who will be seen in The York Theatre Company's upcoming production of Malpractice Makes Perfect, brings his solo show Crush to Crushed — an evening of pop, rock, Spanish, soul and Broadway music centered around the word love — to Orlando Feb. 5-6.
Directed by Yvette Kojic with musical direction by Michael J. Moritz Jr., concerts are offered at 8 PM at The Mezz, above downtown nightclub The Abbey. Crush to Crushed was previously seen at 54 Below in November 2013.
Here's how the evening is billed: "Love's amazing, love sucks, we all want it and rarely do we feel like we get enough. Two time Tony Award nominee Robin De Jesus (In the Heights, La Cage aux Folles, Rent) discusses crushes, loves, break ups, hook ups, sex ed and some of his mother's best kept secrets about lust. Be prepared for lots of tangents, non-sequiturs, Adderall and of course laughs."
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
