25 Sep 2012
Academy Award winner Robin Williams, who was last seen on Broadway in Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo, is among the artists who will take part in the Stand Up For Heroes benefit Nov. 8 at the Beacon Theatre.
Presented by the Bob Woodruff Foundation and the New York Comedy Festival, the evening is scheduled to begin at 8 PM.
Joining Williams are Mike Birbiglia ("Sleepwalk With Me"), Ricky Gervais ("The Office"), Patton Oswalt ("The King of Queens"), Grammy winner Bruce Springsteen and Jon Stewart ("The Daily Show With Jon Stewart").
Stand Up For Heroes, according to the NY Comedy Festival, "brings together leaders from business, entertainment and philanthropy to raise funds for the Bob Woodruff Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to investing in national and community-based programs that connect our troops to the help they need."
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
