17 Jan 2014
The Tony Award-nominated musical Rock of Ages will celebrate Super Bowl XLVIII with performances on the Roman Numerals Stage of "Super Bowl Boulevard - Engineered by GMC" in Times Square Jan. 30 and at the official NFL Tailgate Party outside of MetLife Stadium on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 2.
Producers of the musical announced Jan. 17 that Rock of Ages was picked by the National Football League (NFL) for the Times Square performance, held at 41st Street and Broadway, and the Tailgate Party, held hours before kickoff at the Grandstand at Meadowlands Racetrack and Game Day Fan Plaza outside of MetLife.
Rock of Ages has also launched an online video contest for the chance to join the cast on the Super Bowl Boulevard stage to perform "Don't Stop Believin."
To enter, fans can submit a 15-30 second video of themselves "rockin' out to their favorite part of Bon Jovi's 'Wanted Dead Or Alive' or Whitesnake's 'Here I Go Again,'" — either as a YouTube link here or through Instagram using the hashtag #RockTimesSquare.
Submissions will be accepted through Jan. 20. A panel will choose the top five entries, which will be posted for open voting.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
