Romeo and Juliet's Joe Carroll Will Be Cinderella's New Prince
07 Jan 2014
The Tony-nominated Broadway debut of Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella has crowned its new prince. Beginning Jan. 28 Joe Carroll will play Prince Topher; he succeeds Santino Fontana, who received a Tony nomination for his performance.
As previously announced, multi-platinum pop star Carly Rae Jepsen and film and television star Fran Drescher will join the cast Feb. 4 as Cinderella and her stepmother Madame, respectively.
Joe Carroll comes to Cinderella directly from the recent Broadway revival of Romeo and Juliet, where he played Balthazar and understudied Romeo. He also appeared on Broadway in the Tony Award-winning Best Musical Once.
Currently playing at The Broadway Theatre (1681 Broadway in NYC), Cinderella began previews in January 2013 and opened March 3.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
