Sam Harris Will Celebrate Autobiography with Engagement at 54 Below
18 Oct 2013
Sam Harris, a Tony Award nominee for his performance in The Life, will return to 54 Below in January 2014.
The Jan. 15-18 concerts will celebrate his upcoming autobiography, "HAM: Slices of a Life" (Gallery Books/Simon & Schuster). There is a $35-$55 cover charge and a $25 food and beverage minimum.
Harris, according to press notes, calls his new show a "'liter-usical': a hybrid theatrical show featuring excerpts from the book, artfully interspersed with songs from his classic repertoire."
Sam Harris shot to fame on the TV series "Star Search." In addition to his roles in The Producers and The Life (Tony nomination), Harris' other theatrical credits include the Broadway revival of Grease!, the L.A. productions of Hair and Pippin and the national tour of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. The singer with the multi-octave range has also released several solo recordings, including "Different Stages," "Standard Time" and "The Best of Christmas — Sam Harris Live!"
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
