Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Sam Shepard is in talks to join the cast of the upcoming indie film "Cold in July," which will star stage and screen actor Michael C. Hall, according to Showbiz411.com.
The project, based on the 1989 crime novel by Joe R. Lansdale, is penned by Jim Mickle and Nick Damici.
Mickle will also direct the project, which will feature Hall ("Dexter," Cabaret, Chicago, Skylight) as a man who shoots an intruder in his home. Shepard would play the role of Ben Russell.
Shepard, who received the Pulitzer Prize in 1979 for Buried Child, is also the author of True West and Operation Sidewinder, among others.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
