Tony Award nominee Sam Waterston will join Shakespeare scholar James Shapiro for Sonnets for the City, an upcoming Public Forum event April 26 at Joe's Pub.
Presented at 7 PM, Public Theater veteran Waterston (King Lear, Hamlet) will read some of the Bard's sonnets as part of an evening that will also feature commentary from Shapiro, novelist Téa Obreht and book critic Kathryn Schulz.
The event, which celebrates Shakespeare's birthday (on April 23), will offer insight to the Bard's inspirations, his work and its relationship to contemporary culture.
Tickets are now on sale to Public Theater members. They go on sale to the general public April 4.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
