Jerry O'Connell, who was seen in the recent Broadway production of Seminar, will join Tony Award nominee Eddie Izzard in the upcoming "Munsters" reboot for NBC, entitled "Mockingbird Lane," according to Deadline.com.
O'Connell has been cast as family patriarch Herman Munster, and Izzard (A Day in the Death of Joe Egg, Race) will play Grandpa. Also in the cast are Mason Cook and Charity Wakefield.
The pilot, which will be directed by Bryan Singer and is written by Bryan Fuller, is described as "a reinvention of the 1960s sitcom about The Munsters, a family of 'monsters'— vampires, werewolves and Frankenstein, and their 'plain' cousin (Wakefield)—that will feature striking visuals in the vein of Fuller's ABC dramedy 'Pushing Daisies.'"
O'Connell, who played the role of Douglas in Broadway's Seminar, is best known for his work in film and television, which includes "Sliders," "Stand by Me," "Jerry Magurie" and "Crossing Jordan," among others. Visit his page at the Playbill Vault.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
