Seth Zvi Rosenfeld's Downtown Race Riot, With Annabella Sciorra, Premieres at Powerhouse
26 Jun 2013
Seth Zvi Rosenfeld's Downtown Race Riot, featuring Annabella Sciorra, premieres June 26 as part of the Vassar & New York Stage and Film Powerhouse Theater Mainstage season.
Directed by Scott Elliot, Downtown Race Riot runs through July 7.
Sciorra ("The Sopranos," The Motherf**ker with the Hat) is joined by Molly Carden (Emotional Creature), Miles Chandler ("Empire Falls"), Oghenero Gbaje, Jonathan Judge-Russo (Beyond the Horizon), Daniel London (Offices) and Thomas Sullivan.
Here's how it's billed: "There's a riot on in Washington Square Park and a motley band of feckless, funny young men are spoiling for a fight. Against this backdrop of tribal loyalties and petty beefs, 18-year old Pnut McPartland has to pick sides and hustle his family and his friends just to stay alive."
The production team includes Tony Award-winning set designer Derek McLane, costume designer Emily Rebholz, lighting designer Russell H. Champa and sound designer Bart Fasbender.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
