Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winner Sheldon Harnick is hopeful that his musical adaptation of Moliere's A Doctor In Spite of Himself will receive a New York production, according to the Observer.
Harnick (Fiddler on the Roof, She Loves Me, Fiorello!) penned book, music and lyrics to the musical adaptation of Moliere's farce, which premiered in April 2011 at the William Inge Festival.
The premiere cast featured Cady Huffman, Anthony Rapp, Burke Moses and John Schuck.
Harnick told the Observer that he was in discussions with Classic Stage Company for a production next season. The Off-Broadway company's upcoming season includes Passion, Ivanov and Caucasian Chalk Circle.
The veteran theatre writer also noted that his work with late collaborator Jerry Bock, Fiorello!, would debut at Encores! this season with some lyrical revisions. Fiorello! will run Jan. 30-Feb. 3, 2013.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
