Shing-a-Ling: A Night with the Broadway Urchins Will Reunite Little Shop Cast Members
11 Aug 2014
Cast members from the 2003 Broadway premiere of Little Shop of Horrors will reunite for the seventh annual Living for Today benefit concert to be held Oct. 27 at Joe's Pub.
Titled Shing-a-Ling: A Night with the Broadway Urchins, the 7 PM concert will feature Little Shop urchins Carla J. Hargrove, Trisha Jeffrey and DeQuina Moore who till "take to the stage in a concert of their very own, featuring hits from the radio, the stage, and of course from the musical that brought them together."
David Alpert (If/Then, The Trip to Bountiful, The Best Man) created the evening in honor of his late sister, Gilana Shira Alpert. He directs and produces the annual event that boasts a lineup of Broadway stars.
"This concert and Gilana's Fund are incredibly special to me. Not only are we raising money to help fund educational programming promoting acceptance, but we are honoring my sister's memory. To have my friends from the Broadway community join me in this effort is amazing, and I am so thankful to them, as well as our audiences over the years, for coming together to celebrate acceptance," Alpert said in a statement. "I'm thrilled to have Carla, Trisha and DeQuina with us again, I couldn't ask for more talented, caring or giving performers. Their performance in the last concert was show-stopping—I'm certain that they're going to blow the roof off of Joe's Pub."
The evening features musical direction by Jason Wetzel (After Midnight).
The Gilana Shira Alpert Fund, which has raised over $40,000, supports organizations Gilana was passionate about, including equality advocacy, sex education, theatre studies and Holocaust awareness.
Tickets are priced $20 and $75 and go on sale Aug. 15. Visit JoesPub. Joe's Pub is located within the Public Theater at 425 Lafayette Street.
